Liquid redistributors are used wherever an intermediate liquid feed is introduced into a packed column, and between packed sections, wherever liquid redistribution is required. Liquid redistributors serve several major functions as described below:

• Evenly irrigate the bed below, and at the same time, provide a uniform vapor flow to the bed above
• Mix the liquid and equalize liquid composition throughout the column cross section.
• Mix the vapor and equalize vapor composition throughout the column cross section.
• Remove liquid from the wall and redirect it toward the center of the bed, thus counteracting buildup of excessive wall flow.
• Improve the wetting of packing by splitting up any large channels of liquid flow into small liquid streams.
